The Ljubljana Castle is the city’s most featured landmark. It is a medieval fort overlooking the old city centre. Throughout the year the castle holds a permanent exhibition called Slovenian history. Numerous events are organized for visitors to see. It was first mentioned in the year 1112. Its original shape has changed in the 15th Century, when two pillars and a castell chapel have been added. It was abandoned after it lost its strategic position one Century later. It served as a dungeon and military fort since 1900. In modern days it is mostly a place reserved for weddings and other celebrations.
Because of its strategic layout, the Ljubljana Castle is also popular with dog owners, for it has a nice number of footpaths, surrounded by an incredible landscape and a view of the city.
